Okay, this is a very awkward panoramic shot of our livingroom. But, you can kind of get the feel of being in this space and where everything is located. To the right of the photo is where you enter into the space from the rest of our house. (I'm taking the photo from the corner of the room)
This space measures 23' x 15 1/2' with 9' tall ceilings. It's a pretty big space, especially compared to the rest of our house.
I am most excited to decorate this space and wanted to really set a standard for our entire home using this room.
Being so large , I didn't want anything to get "lost" or overwhelmed by the entire room . I knew it had to be grand and comfortable at the same time. That's not always an easy task.
I knew right away where I wanted my furniture to be. With two sliding glass doors placing the furniture along the walls were really an option .
So, I decided to float the entire arrangement smack dab in the center of the room
A little like this
When sitting on the sofa we'll be staring at a 15 1/2 ' blank wall .
My first thought was, " I wish there were a fireplace on this wall."
So, me and my handy man got to work!
My hubby didn't start out a carpenter . But,after marrying me (aka day dreamer of an endless amount of projects) he quickly had to figure it out and that he did. To this day there is nothing he can't build!
I told my hubby what I was envisioning , showed him lots of pictures, gave him lots of options, and he got to work.
My plan is to have a faux fireplace that doesn't look faux. I want it to look completely original to the house.
It is turning out EXACTLY how I envisioned it. I've had plenty of suggestions on things that I should change. But, honestly , it's perfect (for me!) I'm hoping after it's complete you will agree.
We still need to build a mantel and lot of other goodies. I don't want to give too much away. So you'll just have to wait and see!
Without giving away too many details I will show you this picture to get your imagination going
and remember the other side of the room looks like this
obviously there is a LOT of work still ahead of us . But, it's really coming along don't you think?
It is so stunning... I am totally envious!
ReplyDeleteLooking good! (and I am totally drooling over that trunk in the last picture!)
ReplyDeleteSo awesome that your husband can build something like this. It is going to be just wonderful.
