Inspirational bathroom design

After my bathroom reveal I had a huge in-pour of readers that needed bathroom help for themselves. Apparently I am NOT alone out there in the world of bad, ugly, spaces. One of those people that sent in a letter of desperation was Ashley.

Here is Ashleys "bad bath"

It's actually not THAT bad. The first thing I thought when I saw the photos, " Lots of space!"

The second thing I thought was, " What a huge WASTE of space!"  ...the giant spa tub AND a stand up shower, little mini -tucked away closet, small vanity...

Here is a (not-to-scale) drawing of the space before.

Ashley is a mommy , queen of her castle. So, I wanted to give her a relaxed, beautiful, girly  space. Yet, still be a functional space for her, her son, and her husband.

So, here is what I was envisioning :

For the floor:

a warm , dark, walnut wood floor .

For the left side wall, with the "siding" a soft lavender .
Along the bathtub walls : white subway tile-  you can never go wrong with this tile.
The remaining walls a big , bold pattern wall paper.

First things first, I wanted to get rid of the stand alone shower . I would like to get a new tub (That's not a hunter green) and shower combined.
Next, secluding the toilet into its own space makes the bathroom feel more luxurious , gives everyone their privacy , and creates better flow of the bathroom space.

Adding a frosted glass door will keep the toilet area from feeling too cramped and add lots of light to the space.

By freeing up some of the floor space , a storage piece (shelves, tall hutch, etc) can be added for towels, extra toiletries, and other bathroom necessities (Where the toilet used to sit, next to the bathtub for easy access). I would also like to add a big soft ottoman on wheels .This way she can sit comfortably while she watches her little one while he's taking a bath and roll it away when he's not.

When first entering into the bathroom , a small closet sits on the right hand side , before you get to the vanity area. I would rip this area out as well and add a big long custom built cabinet or a large buffet custom made into a vanity with 2 vessel sinks, giving his and her counter space.

I was told this space used to be a porch/outdoor area. which left them with siding and a door frame area on the left hand wall. Which, I think , is really neat!

The framed in area , now, serves as a shelf. I would rip out the shelving and have a custom cut mirror fitted into it's place , creating a huge full length mirror with the "door frame" as the mirrors frame.

This will add a ton of light to the room and make the space feel wider.

This space has a lot of potential . However, I think Ashley was stumped at where to start. This is purely for inspiration and for fun. She can take all or very little from my drawings and design. I hope this will give her the inspiration to get in there, get her hands dirty, put forth a little elbow grease , and make this space her own!

...for even more fun. I gutted out the closet space that backed up against the bathroom and made a bathroom suite fit for a king and queen .
