Every year I just can't wait for the first big snow.
Not to play.
Not to enjoy the view.
But, for SNOW CREAM!
I'm not sure where the tradition ever started . But, for as long as I can remember the first anticipated snow I run for the cupboard to grab a giant bowl, Collect my snow, make, and indulge!
I wanted to share this tradition with you. To my surprise the Southern queen herself has a recipe for you to try!
For me, I just guess and pour...no measuring.
I hope you join in having some snow cream with me!
Paula Deen's
Snow (ice) Cream:
Ingredients
8 cups snow, or shaved ice
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions:
Place snow or shaved ice into a large bowl. Pour condensed milk over and add vanilla. Mix to combine. Serve immediately in bowls.
So simple, yet so perfect.
I'm for sure going to try this!As kids we would just dish up a big bowl and pour a lil maple syrup on top...thought it was a rare delicacy.
ReplyDeleteThe tradition comes from Grandma. She has made snow creme for as long as I can remember.
ReplyDeleteI used to do this all the time when I was a kid, but haven't since then. We just used sugar and vanilla, never tried it with cream, but that sure makes sense.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Amy, snow cream is delish! I've never heard of it made with sweetened condensed milk, but I bet it's divine! Seeing as we've already had three instances of snow here in NC in just over two weeks, I think it's going to be a cold and snowy winter this year. I'll be sure to grab a can of SCM at the grocery store so I can be at the ready for our next snow-cream-making opportunity! Thanks for sharing the recipe!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas,
Erin
